"transcript": "I replaced QuickBooks with my own finance/accounting/CRA apps\n\nI built a set of Mac desktop apps with Claude for personal finance, accounting, CRA filings, and KPI tracking and it's fully replaced QuickBooks for me.\n\nEverything syncs in real time. Data flows across all the apps automatically, so I'm not duplicating entries. I hit \"create invoice\" and it pulls the info it needs and syncs it everywhere else instantly.\n\nQuickBooks always felt rigid and boring. What I built actually fits how I think and work.\n\nWhat's the most useful or unexpected thing you've built with Claude? Curious what kind of magic other people have pulled off.\n\n\n\n--- Top Comments ---\n\n\n[1 upvotes] **TL;DR of the discussion generated automatically after 80 comments.**\n\nThe consensus is that while building your own custom accounting software is a Chad move, you're playing with fire when it comes to audits and the tax man. **Don't fuck with regulation** is the general vibe from the top comments.\n\nThat said, this thread is a goldmine of awesome projects people have built with Claude. Here are the highlights:\n\n* **Productivity on Steroids:** The most popular ideas are personal automation tools. Think automated expense tracking from receipt screenshots, \"second brain\" systems that scrape and summarize all your work comms (emails, Teams, etc.), and job search tools that tailor and autofill applications for you.\n* **Niche & Hobby Apps:** People are getting creative, building everything from bus and train spotting apps with live data to fragrance collection managers, vintage computer emulators, and custom music notation software.\n* **Developer & Business Tools:** We're seeing custom bridges between enterprise apps, knowledge management tools with slick GUIs, secret scanners for Git, and a whole lot of custom dashboards and invoice generators for small businesses.\n* **Hilariou\n\n[43 upvotes] Replacing quickbooks??\n\nBold strategy if an auditor comes knocking. You know there are open source, performant, certified ERPs you can build off of? \n\n[25 upvotes] I used it to make a bunch of money disappear. That was neat. \n\n[23 upvotes] I track my expenses, used to be manual - typing in the amount, select the spending category etc into an app.\n\nNow I have an iCloud folder where I dump in a screenshot - wallet notification, receipt, amazon order, any type of screenshot. My Claude Cowork picks them up daily, extract the info from the screenshots, look for the type of the merchant off the internet, and load them all into my expense tracking app.\n\nBeen doing the manual steps for 10+ years, now I’m free!\n\n[15 upvotes] I built an app for bus, plane and train spotting. It started off simple and now it links with many APIs to pull live vehicle information and uses Claude itself to identify the vehicles for you :-)",
