  "transcript": "Never getting over the fact that AI has claimed the em-dash. My favorite punctuation to use, and now all of the sudden it’s a dead giveaway of AI use. Now I find myself changing it to a hyphen or en-dash (even though it makes less grammatical sense to do so) to avoid the AI accusations.  \nDoes anyone know why this is seemingly overused with AI (particularly chat gpt)?\n\n\n\n--- Top Comments ---\n\n\n[94 upvotes] Probably because it is used a lot in print and a lot of training data is digitized print material.\n\n[39 upvotes] It also loves to over use other annoying conventions of writing, like contrasting negation (not x, not y, but z), and “honestly?” And that’s not x.  That’s y.  Very annoying\n\n[26 upvotes] AI is trained with and weighted heavily with an entire history of proper examples of written text more so than with informal text, such as internet comments. People who have a more advanced education in English are certainly not unfamiliar with the use of em dashes. They're used very frequently in literature, academia, etc...\n\nBefore LLMs it was more of a salient flag that someone actually knew how to write.",
