  "transcript": "I make mods for a game called Rimworld. They are pretty popular (together about 2M subs on Steam). Recently I found that there are users in the official Rimworld discord that simply uninstall all my mods as soon as they hear that I updated them with AI. \n\nThis has nothing to do with rational arguments. They do know that I am careful with whatever I publish. Instead the argument is by sheer principle and I find it astonishing that they react so extreme. I called it “religious” and was instantly met with disgust and very strong feelings. \n\nI’m still shocked. The Great Depression was less than 25% unemployment\n\n[137 upvotes] You say it has nothing to do with \"rational arguments\" and that it's \"sheer principle\", but a principle is inherently rooted in a rationale.\n\nPeople boycott companies that use slave labor out of \"sheer principle\" too, and they have a rational argument to support that principle.\n\nI use AI every day to program and am only hoping it gets better and better. But I think there's a perfectly rational argument to boycott AI-assisted products.\n\nNow obviously I'm not saying AI is equal to slave labor. But if for example they don't like AI because it's 3 capitalist companies funneling human history into a box and selling it without anyone's permission, and forcing it on them through institutions society has become dependent on, (like google), then I don't see how that's not a principled rational argument.\n\nI'm not saying people that stopped using your mod are making that argument or if they're only doing it because the people they align with don't like AI. But there *are* plenty of rational arguments that would solicit an 'extreme' anti-AI reaction. The same way vegetarians can be disgusted that people eat meat and choose not to support businesses that sell meat.
