"transcript": "Hi, welcome to the PowerBI course. In\nthis session, we are going to discuss\nthe concept of the merging different\nfiles. By the way, uh this concept of\nthe merging in a two ways are there.\nFirst way is that in which uh you have a\nsimple Excel workbook and the one\nworkbook there is a multiple number of\nthe sheets are there. You merge them.\nThe second approach is that if you if\nyou have a folder in which there is\ndifferent workbooks are there and each\nworkbook there is a file. Okay. So we\nuse the strategy the both options which\nmean that if you have any type of the\nformat of the file how you can merge\nthem. Okay the first one is that if uh I\nhave a one work book in which there's a\ndifferent number of the sheet how I can\nmerge them. Okay let's see. So I am just\nuh getting this data first.\nSo this is my data on the one data set.\nI just click open. When I just click\nopen, I just open that file in the\ntransform data which mean power query\neditor. You can see that in one workbook\nthere is a different number of these\nsheets are there by the name of Jan,\nFab, Marsh, Apple and May. So I just\nselect all of them\nokay all selection and click on the\ntransform data that's good and after\nthat inside the home tab of power query\nyou can see that there is a append\nqueries options are there. Okay, by the\nway inside the append queries there are\ntwo options both are same but if you\nclick on the appends options the first\nappend queries the original file will\nreplace by the merging but if you click\non the append queries as new so all the\nfile will make a duplicate to merge in a\nseparate okay so second option will be\nthe good one so I just uh click on the\nsecond option okay and you can see that\nI am on the fab data because fab file is\nselected that's not a good so I just\nclick on the gen because this is a first\nsheet of my workbook and after that\nclick on the append queries as new and I\nhave more than two tables to three or\nmore tables just click on the second\noption okay look at here and after that\nthis is the important option so Jan is\nalready here I just click on the fab add\nthen March add\nApril add May add okay so all five\nnumber of the months are added on the\nright side table two app option. Okay.\nAnd after that I just click okay. When I\nclick okay, you can see that by the name\nof the append tables is there and all\nthe from January to my data are merged\nhere in a same pattern. That's a good\nthe question may arise that why all\ntables merge in a right way because if I\njust show you my Excel sheet in which\nall table having a same number of the\ncolumns but the rows are different but\nthe major thing is that if the column\nnames and column count are same we can\neasily merge all column by using the\nappend queries option. Okay, you can\nobserve that in the first January there\nis the five number of the rows and here\nyou can see that here is the six number\nof the rows but the column are remain\nsame. If the column are not same the\nappend queries work as like the same but\nthe problem is that it will make another\ncolumn separately. Okay, for example in\nfirst table there is a total the another\nuh sheet there is a instead of total is\nwrite subtotal. So subtotal will be\nmerged here. Okay. And the rest of the\nvalues are represented as a null. Okay.\nSo be careful about that which type of\nthe format you have and how you can uh\nmerge them together. But that's all\nabout the fuss strategy. So after this\none I just close and apply. So when I\njust click close and apply all the data\nwill be back in PowerBI individually and\nmerge as well. Let's see how.\nAnd on the right hand side all the data\nwill be loading here. And here it is.\nYou can see that the append one is also\nthere and all the separate values is\nalso there. Okay, that's the first way.\nThe second one, I have a folder. Okay,\nin which different workbook and in each\nworkbook there is a sheet. So I just\nclick on the cat data option and inside\nthe cat data there is more and inside\nwhen you click more this tab will be\nopen and there is a folder option. I\njust clicked folder connect. I need to\nselect that folder. Click on the browse\nand in the desktop I have a folder name\nof the month data. Click okay. And when\nI click okay this folder will select it\nand click okay. Remember that the same\nformat of the data is available on this\ndifferent number of the sheet as well.\nBut they are separate. When I just click\nokay, it will open as like this. Okay.\nThis directly show that actually your\ncontent in a binary format. Then the\nname of the file extension uh date\naccessed\nuh date modified date created attributes\nand folder path where it's come from. I\njust click transform data which mean\nthat I want to open that data in a power\nquery editor. I just click on it and\nafter that the format of the data as\nlike the same is showing here. Now what\nare the two important things here is\ngood for me. The important thing is that\nthe content majorly content but the\nsecond one you can see that the name of\nthe file is also whereas the rest of the\nall other information is not relevant\nand good for me okay because it's not\nactual data it's information about the\ndata so I just select both column okay\nyou can see that and right click on it\nand here's a remove other columns so all\nother column will be removed okay what\nis the next thing next thing is that I\nwant to convert my binary content data\ninto a excel\nformat. To do this, I just go to the add\ndata. There is a custom column option.\nOkay, click on it. And when you click\ncustom column, this window will open.\nOkay, this is the name of your new\ncolumn which you want to uh create in a\nform of the Excel format. So I just name\nit Excel\ncontent. Excel\ncontent. And after that I write a\nformula here Excel. workbook.\nInside the square bracket there is a\nlarge bracket and inside the large\nbracket just type the name of your\ncontent column. Look at it. The content\nis already present now which having a\nvalue of binary. So I just write\ncontent. All done. And after that click\nokay. When you click okay the content\ncolumn will be added here. You can see\nthat\nwhen it's showing it means that the\ncontent the values the table are inside\nthat column. You need to just click on\nthis two-dimensional arrow and when you\nclick on it here you can see that all\nthe columns values are selected as a\nfilter expand option and after that use\noriginal column name as a prefix which\nmeans that the column name as a prefix\nwill be added when you just click okay.\nOkay. So I just click okay. When I just\nclick okay you can see that all the\nvalues are expanded okay on the right\nhand side. But here is not actual value.\nI want the actual value of okay do it\nmore one more again content data click\non the two dimensional arrow and then\nthe same thing click again click okay\nwhen you click again the all the data\nincluding the attribute heading is added\nthere okay you can see that January data\nokay or April data fab data all are here\nokay so there is a employee there is\nanother employee there is another\nemployee there is another employee\nbecause they having a adding I want to\nignore that one. Huh? I just click here\nand after that I just ignore the\nemployee name. Click okay. All the\nheading will be removed. And after that\nwhatever the columns are important you\nwill remain it otherwise you delete it.\nSo important column is the name of the\nuh employee the position and other\nthings. So this binary this name and\nthis axel uh not important for me which\nmean that name of the month. Similarly\nat the last content hidden there is no\nimportant thing sheet no important thing\nitem is not important right click and\ndelete or remove. So this is the\noriginal format of the data is now the\nname uh position salaries and other\ninformation are there and after that I\njust rename it change the data types and\nI can use it by the name of the month\ndata. This is the first way when you uh\nmerging the data from the different\nworkbook. Okay, I just cancel to back\none by one.\nOkay, add column is also there. Okay,\nwhen I just add a a custom column and\nafter that this Excel content is added.\nHuh, remember that and I just click\nhere. I'll use this option will remain\nchecked. This time another issue another\nstrategy I just uncheck this one and\nclick okay. When I just click okay the\nheading you can see that the exact same\nheading is there not a prefix heading\nwill be added and after that go to the\ncontent data option again click here and\nhere you can see that click okay again\nwhen you click okay again the same\noption is added but the uh heading is\nnot same as like the previous okay so\nthis is the second option by the way the\nsame values I just click on the filter\noption ignore that one and click okay\nwhen you click okay table is merged and\nyou can use this one. Okay. If you want\nto just uh make the alignment January\n1st then FAP then March. So you properly\nalign it as a filter options as well uh\nby using the additional column as well.\nBut I'm just showing you how you can\nmerge this data together in a very\nappropriate manner. So why not uh we\njust add one more column to filter this\nrecord as well. Okay. To do this I first\nuh the extra number of the column which\nI don't need for example the content and\nname the content in a binary format the\nname of the month is there and then\nthere is a month name is required uh the\nname of the person position salaries and\nother functionalities is required now\nthere is a item I don't need this one\nkind and hidden is also I don't need\nright click and then remove columns\nthat's good after that changing the data\ntypes uh so I just click on here and\nthis is the whole number. This is also\nthe whole number. Here is also the whole\nnumber. Okay, this is the text and it is\nalso a text. I just write here I just\nwrite it is a months. Okay.\nAnd here I just write a name.\nOkay.\nBasic pay.\nbasic\npay\nallowances\nand I just write here a total. We can\nsee that the table which before are\nseparated is now merged and I want to\nfilter by the month as well from January\nto onward. So the good thing is that I\njust go to the add column option. Okay.\nAnd after that the custom column and I\njust write here months in number months\nin number. Okay. And after that I just\nwrite the logical formula here. If\nmonths okay I have a column in which the\nspelling of months and the name is J A\nN. The same spelling you must write\nhere. If it's a Jan it is equal to Jan.\nThen the separate column month is number\nit represented by one. Then if it is FAP\nthen two\nand so on. So I just write here FAP is\nrepresented by two March and April and\nMay represented by five as well. Okay.\nThis is a formula which I just supposed\nto write here. Okay. Otherwise uh I just\nwrite here else null. Okay. This is my\nformula which I just write here. And\nwhen the formula done I just click okay.\nWhen I click okay, you can see that\nnumber is added there. I just change the\ndata type into a whole number. And after\nthat, I just drag this column just after\nthe months. Okay. And I just filter this\nin the ascending order. When I filter\nthis ascending order, you can see that\nthe last column from the left side is\nJan, Feb, March, April and May. And here\nis the same format of the data. So we\nhave successfully built the same pattern\nof the data which I just required from\nthe folder from 1st January to April as\nlike this. If there is a December you\ncan also do the same thing. Okay. So\nafter this one final thing is that you\ncan rename this merge data. So I just\nwrite here Jan to May data. That's it.\nAnd then go to the home close and apply.\nAnd here we go. It's now going to\napplicable here gen 2 all data and here\nis the first append format. So that's\nall about it on this video we discuss\nthe concept of the uh merging data or\nappending data in a both way. Hope\nyou'll understand. In the next session\nwe will discuss about more important\nthings which is important in PowerBI for\nthe practical work as well as the\nindustrial work. See you there.",
